The Story

Friday was The Story, at least for assembled digerati in the nether regions of Red Lion Square in London.
Organised by Channel 4 Education’s Matt Locke, but not an official Channel 4 event, it arguably completes a triangle which has Interesting and Playful at its other two points.
It was a day for grazing or fossicking in the woods, unsure of what you might find yourself chewing on next. Some of it was too adolescently surreal for my tastes but then the most surreal of all, Sydney Padua and her Babbage and Lovelace comic series, proved to be my favourite.
Also loved Alexis Kennedy talking about Failbetter Games designing Casual Gameplay with self-mocking insight. He’s their Chief Narrative Officer – a moniker I envy and covet.
Here at Mudlark, we are head- down in a project that will make a lot of noise when we announce it – telling a very old story in a very new way. I spent much of the day drifting in and out of my concerns about that and the pleasures and insights that many of the talks offered. Not quite a Robert Wilson dream state, but divertingly diverting nonetheless. And Tim Wright, who is working on same Mudlark project, told the funniest story of the day.
James Bridle has written a very good blogpost on it here. And there are more here.
