Curtain Goes Up On Such Tweet Sorrow

Today saw the curtains open on the world’s first professional Twitter-based performance of Shakespeare: Such Tweet Sorrow.

Produced by Mudlark this modern-day Romeo and Juliet, created in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company and 4iP, was conceived over 18 months ago and we’ve been working behind the scenes to secure the right team of writers and actors to bring this experiment in global theatre to life.

Over the next five weeks six professional actors will perform through Twitter, interacting which each other and their followers live and in real-time.

Why are we doing this? To take Shakespeare to a whole new audience. To experiment with digital performance. To see how a global audience influences and interacts with one of the world’s most famous stories.

What will happen? We have no real idea, but experimenting on this scale with such a fantastic cast and production team ensures that the audience are in for an interesting ride!

You can follow the whole performance through www.suchtweetsorrow.com.
