Mudlark is the UK Galileo Master 2009

It has been the season of competitions and pitching here at Mudlark.

This started off with the succesful pitch to the Galileo Masters Competition http://www.galileo-masters.eu/ which we were happy and surprised to be chosen as the UK and Ireland regional winner for Heartlands and our bio-sensory locative game engine.

Last night I came to Munich to receive the award, at a very dramatic award ceremony including regional winners from 18 countries worldwide. The competition is to support services and usage of Global Navigation Satelite Systems towards the launch of the Galileo European Satelite System – due to go live in 2013.  It is a system designed specifically for citzens, as opposed to existing system built by the US military.

Being one of only two women winners in all categories was an interesting experience. This is a very different zone to the ones we usually inhabit – it shows that our work across media platforms and merging technology, science and gaming is being taken seriously across sectors.

Last week was Pixel Pitch, a whole different type of competition.  We were shortlisted for the Pixel Pitch competition and were the only factual documentary project shortlisted amongst the 7 finalists – the others being drama.  More to come on the Dark Forest Game and interactive documentary and the results of Pixel Pitch.
