Commercial Director
Charles has a long and jagged career in media stuff. The Mr Television of Mudlark, he started out as a researcher for the “serious” Clive James show at the BBC, after several years as a journalist writing principally for The Irish Times in Dublin. At the BBC he went on to make films for and then produce Rough Justice, before series producing Peter York’s Eighties. Since then it was his fault Ann Widdicombe started making TV – he persuaded her to be the judge in a long-forgotten Channel 4 show called Nothing But The Truth. He also dreamed up C4’s Cheating At Athens, a reality/ science show during which contestants were injected with anabloic steroids , BetTheHouse , a betting-on-politics show ( watch these spaces) and, along with Mudlark colleague Toby Barnes, Not The Face, a virtual world reality series that will one days blow everyone’s mind – but you’ll just have to wait.
Charles runs Rock Hammer, the Midlands TV indie that is a partner in Mudlark. Recently he has gone back to writing/directing/producing with two single docs for the BBC.
Charles is Mudlark’s Commercial Director, building up the company’s financial base, running our new investment strategy , and handling our barely-human resources .
